London’s only open-air theatre and cinema experience, Summer Showtime, is returning to Battersea Power Station’s Coaling Jetty on the River Thames for Summer 2021

Hottest ticket in town with a stellar line-up of film screenings from The Cinema in the Arches and performances from The Turbine Theatre

Enjoy special picnic boxes and takeaway options from a great mix of retailers on the jetty including Megan’s, Vagabond Wines, Battersea Brewery and more.

Lights, camera, action! Battersea Power Station will once again be the backdrop for silver screen classics and unforgettable theatre performances as Summer Showtime on The Coaling Jetty makes a showstopping return between 17th July and 30th August 2021

Hosted on the historic Coaling Jetty on the River Thames in front of the Grade II* listed Power Station, London’s only open-air cinema and theatre experience will feature film screenings from The Cinema in the Arches, formerly known as Archlight Cinema, and special theatre and comedy performances from The Turbine Theatre. Both retailers can usually be found nestled under the railway arches in Circus West Village, a thriving riverside neighbourhood for London and the first completed chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station.

With film screenings and theatre performances selling out fast last year, cinema and theatre goers looking for a new outdoor experience in London will need to book fast to secure their seats at Summer Showtime on The Coaling Jetty 2021.

Cinema fans are in for a treat with the great line-up of much-loved classics and recent blockbusters including The Dark Knight, scenes of which were filmed in the Power Station itself, Mad Max: Fury Road, A Star Is Born, Dunkirk, Dirty Dancing, La La Land, Back To The Future, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Mamma Mia, Shaun of The Dead and many more hitting the big screen.

Cinema in The Arches is known for its five-star cinematic experience with super comfy, reclining seats, state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos surround sound and crystal-clear laser projection screens. The set of independent cinemas which includes sister sites, Cinema at Selfridges and Cinema at Olympic Studios, will also be expanding its portfolio with the opening of a major new cinema and private members club inside Battersea Power Station itself, once the London landmark opens its doors to the public next year.

Lisa Burdge, Co-Founder, The Cinema in The Arches said:

“Summer Showtime on The Coaling Jetty is a great way to enjoy the iconic outdoor setting of Battersea Power Station, along with views along the River Thames. We are delighted to be back again this Summer with a terrific line-up of old favourites and more recent blockbusters. The next 12 months are set to be exciting for us as we prepare to open The Cinema at The Power Station next year – complete with two large cinema screens, a new members’ bar, and screening room. We look forward to welcoming movie enthusiasts inside the historic London landmark, which has starred in several silver screen classics itself over the years.”

The fun doesn’t stop there. Following sold out performances last year of popular musical Hair, theatre fans heading to Summer Showtime on The Coaling Jetty will be spoilt for choice with performances from members of the renowned Brit School, productions of Jane Eyre, Romeo & Juliet, The Best of Frankie Valli, family-friendly Wind in The Willows, Beauty in the Beast and Three Little Pigs, as The Turbine Theatre takes to the stage again on The Coaling Jetty. There will also be double the laughs this year as comedian and member of comedy sketch group Daphne, Phil Wang, joins the line-up.

Paul Taylor-Mills, Artistic Director, The Turbine Theatre, said:

“After a successful Summer Showtime last year, we’re thrilled to be welcoming audiences back to the beautiful Coaling Jetty at Battersea Power Station. The notion of presenting live entertainment came out of necessity to ensure we continue to engage our audiences. It’s wonderful that we can bring this outdoor experience back for a second year and extend the theatre’s reach across this exciting riverside neighbourhood at the foot of the iconic Battersea Power Station. We’re looking forward to hosting a variety of work such as Shakespeare, compilation musical performances, comedy and our first children’s musical; Wind in the Willows.

“The Wind in the Willows is a beautiful and enchanting musical production written by Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) with music by the award-winning Stiles & Drewe (Mary Poppins). The show was last seen at the London Palladium in 2018 and has been specially adapted for a more intimate outdoor performance. It promises to be the perfect Summer treat for all the family, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to Summer Showtime on The Coaling Jetty.”

A trip to the theatre or cinema wouldn’t be the same without treating yourself to a delicious meal, a refreshing drink or some tasty treats. Luckily for Summer Showtime guests there will be lots of options to choose from on The Coaling Jetty including delicious picnic boxes and toasties from Megan’s at the Power Station, wines from around the globe, cheese and charcuterie boards from Vagabond Wines, craft beer from resident brewers Battersea Brewery, and much-loved popcorn and sweets from The Cinema in The Arches.

Cinema and theatre goers can also dine around the world at Battersea Power Station’s great mix of riverside bars and restaurants including Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume, Gordon Ramsay’s Street Pizza, Cinnamon Kitchen, Tapas Brindisa Battersea, Tonkotsu and No.29 Power Station West to name a few.
